Affirmative action should remain for minorities

As I continue the discussion we had in class today, I think it is truly essential for all minorities to remain having the advantage of affirmative action. You see, I'm not discriminating or advocating the fact that one race should be more privledged than the other, but instead I'm just saying...why shouldn't it be necessary that a black person gets a better chance at MAKING it in life. White people have been opressing Black, Latino and many races of color due to the fact that they simply could and they had power. Now I'm not angry at the fact that they had power, hey more power to them. However, they abused their power and used it for wrong things. For example, African Americans had been enslaved for hundreds of years. Working crops out in the blistering sun, and breaking their backs in fields before their white master broke it for them. So after, everything that black people have been through, why shouldn't they get the upperhand on receiving a good education. Now the fact that Barack Obama is in the White House is even more of a motivation to go to college. I mean if I had spent years of my life believing I couldn't go to college because I was black, I would be overly ecstatic to find out that a person that was the same color as me...could make it. I would think "hey, this guy had a chance, this guy made it, maybe that means that all hope isnt lost for me." By Barack Obama being in the White House, I think that just gives us a BIGGER reason to keep affirmative action around. Imagine how many more people who have financial issues could become suddenly inspired due to the fact that someone of their race made it when no one thought we could. Therefore, affirmative action should stick around, what are we losing?
